Summary, etc When combatting child sexual exploitation content, the use of terminology differs across
agencies, industries, and jurisdictions. Clarity is important to streamline discussions, research accurately and avoid confusion and ongoing harm to victims and survivors of child sexual exploitation. It is important that the language used is accurate, respectful and used without stigma. This will help promote consistent messaging for education and communication resources related to combatting child sexual exploitation content.

However, there is a need for research of a comprehensive list of Māori words that refer to the sexual exploitation of children and young people.

There are a number of legislative instruments domestically and internationally that provide a legal framework for the care and protection of children in New Zealand. These are listed and referred to throughout the document.

The Combatting Child Sexual Exploitation Group (the Group) has been established to enhance cooperation across relevant agencies and provide a vehicle to develop and run collaborative initiatives, projects and campaigns in New Zealand. Priorities will include identifying and reaching
out to other interested government and non-government agencies that play a role in this area and build a system approach to make a difference in the prevention space.

The Interagency Working Group compromises of representatives from the following organisations (in alphabetic order): NZ Customs Service; Department of Internal Affairs; ECPAT Child Alert (ending child sexual exploitation); Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment - Trafficking Persons Programme (review only); Netsafe; NZ Police and Oranga Tamariki (Ministry for Children).

These organisations have an interest in the subject: ACC, Child Sex Offender Register, The Classification Office, Ministry of Social Development,
Ministry of Youth Development and Office of the Children’s Commissioner.
