Summary, etc | In recent years, the global development agenda has paid greater attention to end violence against children than ever before. Yet to prevent and address these human rights violations, we must first understand the nature, magnitude, risk and protective factors, and consequences of different forms of violence against children (VAC). High quality data can then be used to develop evidence-based, culturally relevant plans, policies, programmes, and laws, measure changes over time while ensuring that well-meaning interventions do not cause unintended harm.

The recent Evidence and Gap Map on interventions to prevent VAC has shed light on many issues, including, for example, the scarcity of data from low and middle-income countries. Furthermore, because significant gaps remain, particularly about children in situations of greater vulnerability, there is a need to collect and analyze data on equity stratifiers (such as age and ethnicity) to better understand how social determinants influence VAC.

Effective solutions to end violence against children will require researchers, practitioners, and leaders to come together to take stock of what we know, bridge gaps across the field, and influence change through the use and generation of VAC evidence.

This is the second webinar in Unicef Innocenti's 2021 Solutions Summit Series Together to @ENDviolence. This series aims to share evidence and foster discussion on intersections between violence against women and violence against children, highlighting synergies opportunities for greater collaboration and opportunities for moving towards implementation to build knowledge and translate it into policy and programs.
