520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc | In May 2018, the Coalition Government explicitly laid out its vision for welfare, in the Terms of Reference for the Welfare Expert Advisory Group (WEAG): “The Government’s vision is for a welfare system that ensures people have an adequate income and standard of living, are treated with and can live in dignity and are able to participate meaningfully in their communities...”1Nearly two years have passed since the WEAG delivered its Whakamana Tāngata report explaining how the government could go about achieving this vision. However our analysis shows the government has implemented very few of WEAG’s recommendations (Figure1). None of the 42 key recommendations, and only four of 126 detailed recommendations, have been fully implemented. It has partially implemented only7 of the 42 key recommendations (17%), and partially or fully implemented 13 of the 126 detailed recommendations (10%). (From the Executive summary).
