Update: Second and final report released 23 November 2020 (#6908). <br/><br/>The Children’s Commissioner is undertaking a review of Oranga Tamariki - Ministry for Children.<br/><br/>This report shares insights gained so far in this review which aim to answer the question: What needs to change to enable pēpi Māori aged 0-3 months to remain in the care of their whānau in situations where Oranga Tamariki is notified of care and protection concerns?<br/><br/>After considering the multiple strands of evidence, the Office of the Children's commissioner identified six areas for change to explore during stage two of this review. The Office started with themes drawn from the analysis of what was heard from mums and whānau and wove these together with other strands of evidence. <br/><br/>This is the first report of a two-part series. The exploratory approach is designed to identify and pinpoint areas for change. These will be examined in more detail in part two where detailed recommendations will be made.
