520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc In December 2011, an on-line publication for The Lancet described trends in child maltreatment across six developed countries (Sweden, England, New Zealand, Western Australia, Manitoba (Canada) and the United States). The paper was an attempt to answer the question “Are trends in child maltreatment decreasing?”. Trends were presented for deaths, hospital admissions and social service agency contacts for children aged 0-11 years (0-14 years for deaths), and focused on physical abuse and maltreatment rather than psychological or sexual abuse. In this brief article in the Social Services Providers Aotearoa newsletter, one of the authors, New Zealand researcher, Pauline Gulliver, now at the NZFVC, discusses the implications for New Zealand.
