520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc This study was concerned with overcoming the obstacles to the prevention of domestic violence by providing a snapshot of masculinities and intimate heterosexual relationships in New Zealand and by determining the association between masculinities and engaging men in the prevention of men’s domestic violence towards women. Twenty eight ordinary men aged between 18 and 65 from a range of backgrounds were invited to participate in focus group discussions. The men were mostly of New Zealand European and Pasifika ethnicities. The discussions were audio-recorded and the recordings transcribed. Transcriptions were analysed using discourse analysis. This study found a number of ways in which masculine practices and values affected the prevention of men’s domestic violence towards women. [from the Executive Summary]
