The Family Violence Death Review Committee (FVDRC) has released its second Report detailing the work it has done since September 2009 and the priorities for its next stage of development. The mortality review brings together all agencies with a working knowledge of a deceased person to develop a more comprehensive picture of that persons death. In 2010 New Zealand recorded 26 family violence deaths, out of a total of 72 homicides. <br/>The FVDRC report draws on information from the 2006 Learning from Tragedy report which studied all family violence deaths in New Zealand for the period 2002-2006 and an unpublished study covering the 2007 to 2008 period. The report details demographic information for the victims and perpetrators of recorded family violence deaths in 2002-2008, while acknowledging limitations due to data availability issues. The report focuses on three categories of family violence deaths from the period 2002-2008: the 100 couple related deaths, the 49 child deaths (under 15 years) and the 37 other family violence deaths. <br/>The last chapter of the report outlines the Committee’s priorities for 2011/12.<br/>Includes Appendix 3: Taking care of those working on family violence death reviews, contributed by Alison Towns (pp.28-31).<br/> |
