520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc This report considers models of domestic violence intervention within the justice and social services sectors, and makes the case for a Duluth-style intervention in New Zealand. The report begins by outlining differing theories of woman-battering or domestic violence, and development of feminist understandings of violence towards women. The Duluth Abuse Intervention Programme in Minnesota, USA, is discussed, with the aim of drawing out principles and practices that could be used in the New Zealand context. (A detailed description of the Duluth programme and policies is included in the appendix.) Finally, the author reviews the development of legislation and programmes in New Zealand throughout the 1970s and 1980s, and makes some recommendations around the coordination of family violence services.
