| Summary, etc | This report is a review of the operation of the Domestic Violence Act (1995) in Wellington. It combines a survey of case law with questionnaires distributed to police, lawyers, and others working with the Domestic Violence Act in the Wellington region to establish whether the Domestic Violence Act is successful in its goals. The report finds that there is ambiguous wording in various areas of the Act (for example, the course of action taken if a protection order is breached) and inconsistency within the roles of those working in the area of domestic violence. The authors recommend that the language be clarified within the Act and a more integrated information sharing system be developed so that protection order details can be accessed anywhere in the country. |
