520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc This toolkit was created to outline how the health and disability sectors can help reduce violence in interpersonal relationships, families, schools and communities. It provides insights into population strategies and family violence intervention protocols to help encourage a reduction in interpersonal violence. The following areas are covered within the toolkit: partner abuse, child abuse, elder abuse, and youth violence, particularly school violence. The toolkit presents information relating to the prevalence of violence and its impact on health service utilisation among children (aged 0 -14), women, men, youths, older persons, Maori, and Pacific peoples. It provides a summary of key actions and principles, including population-based strategies for identification, assessment and referral of victims of child, partner or elder abuse, and principles such as respect and dignity and the incorporation of institutional commitment, intersectoral collaboration and monitoring. Population-based strategies, such as home visiting, school-base programmes, a focus on meeting the needs of Maori and Pacific peoples, public awareness campaigns, help lines, and building supportive community environments, are reviewed in detail. The toolkit examines the response of the health and disability sectors to family violence and, lastly, elder abuse and neglect services, including protocols, interventions and related information. The appendices provide definitions of interpersonal violence, information on the policy context, a diagram on risk factors, some examples of protocols, and a list of contacts for services and further resources.
