520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc This report presents the follow-up to the United Nations Special Session on Children 2002, where the New Zealand Government committed itself to a plan of action to reduce child abuse and neglect based upon "A World Fit for Children" (2002), the agreement of the Session. Section 1 of this document provides an overview of previous reports that have identified care and protection issues in New Zealand, and common themes arising out of these reports are discussed. Section 2 reviews current government departmental initiatives aimed at reducing child abuse and neglect, such as the "Care and Protection Blueprint 2003" (2003), and the "Youth Development Strategy Aotearoa" (2002). Areas of child protection needing improvement identified during the UNICEF workshop on 31 March 2004 are discussed in section 3. The authors present their conclusions and various recommendations in section 4 of this report.
