520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc This unpublished report presents findings from a survey carried out to provide baseline information for the evaluation of the Igniting Change project in Christchurch, New Zealand. The project is a social marketing campaign established in 2007 and aimed at changing attitudes and behaviours to prevent family violence. The postal survey was delivered to 5,000 households in Christchurch, from which 940 responses were received (a response rate of 19%). The survey was intended to gauge people's understanding of family violence, when, how and if they would intervene in a situation of family violence , which services that would use to gain help and services that they are aware of that offer help. The survey results suggest most respondents thought that family violence was a community issue. The results also indicate that while a majority of people would intervene in a family violence situation with strangers, they are more likely to intervene if they know the persons involved or are related to them, or if children are involved.
