520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc This paper evaluates a training programme that aimed to educate mental health workers how to inquire about a client's history of sexual abuse. Eighty-five participants attended the programme, which was based on the goals of the Auckland District Health Board and Auckland Rape Crisis. New Zealand and international research are summarised. The authors look briefly at the following: current practice; barriers for mental health workers to asking clients and for clients in responding to questioning; training for asking about abuse; and workplace policy and guidelines in New Zealand mental health services. The outcome of the training programme's evaluation is also reported. Six weeks on from the training programme, staff were experiencing positive outcomes from the programme. A longer follow-up period after future programmes is recommended.
