520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc This article discusses the issue of violence and intimidation against social workers in the practice environment. The aim of the article is to enhance social workers awareness of this issue and to emphasize that violence and intimidation against practitioners should not be accepted as just "a part of the job". The author argues that reporting its incidence is vital to staff safety and well-being, as well as to that of children and young people. A number of strategies and supports within Child, Youth and Family are discussed. Supervision is described as pivotal among these and assessing and addressing the impact on practice response is highlighted. The Violence Prevention Code of Practice is discussed as providing clear information about the roles and responsibilities of all parties, as well as detailing risks and potential staff reactions to violent situations. The article concludes by reinforcing the message to social workers that violence of any type is unacceptable, whether it affects clients or practitioners.
