This review concerns the Oversight of Oranga Tamariki System Act 2022 (called “the Oversight Act” in this report) and the Children and Young People’s Commission Act 2022 (“the Commission Act”), which came into force in May and July 2023, respectively. The legislation recognises the importance of continuous improvement: each Act requires a review of the Act to begin within three years after it came into force.

This review confirmed the importance of high-quality oversight,
monitoring, and accountability arrangements for maintaining public trust and supporting transparency around how the state cares for children and young people. (From the Executive summary). Record #9189
