This report describes sexual assaults reported to the New Zealand Police between April 2017 and March 2023. Operational data for the reported assaults is linked with court data to track outcomes at each stage of the criminal justice system, and the time Police investigations and court processes take. This report illustrates the pathways of victims of sexual assault in the criminal justice system, rather than that of the perpetrators. he number of sexual assaults reported each year reflects Police operational data as of April
2024, and may increase as Police investigations continue.
