This report summarizes the lifetime and past
12-month prevalence of different forms of intimate
partner violence victimization among women and
men in the United States, including contact sexual
violence, physical violence, stalking, and psycho-
logical aggression. It details intimate partner violence
victimization prevalence by race/ethnicity, charac-
teristics such as sex of perpetrator and age at first
victimization, direct impacts of victimization such
as injury or missed school or work, and associations
between victimization and health conditions. It also
describes reports of minors in the respondent’s home
who witnessed intimate partner violence among their
parents or guardians.

The National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey (NISVS) is an ongoing, national random-digit-dial (RDD) telephone survey on sexual violence (SV), stalking, and intimate partner violence (IPV) victimization. Data, representative of the U.S. non-institutionalized adult population, are collected from the non-institutionalized English- and Spanish-speaking U.S. population aged 18 or older using a dual-frame sampling strategy that includes landlines and cell phones. NISVS provides national and state-level estimates of these types of violence, collecting data from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Record #7976
