Te Pae Whakatupuranga/Functional Family Therapy Cross Generations (Pae Whakatupuranga) is a new programme designed to address the inter-generational cycle of criminal behaviour, by working directly with young people and their families. Aotearoa - the New Zealand Police. Pae Whakatupuranga is an adaptation of Functional Family Therapy, that has been delivered by YH|KP in Aotearoa New Zealand2 since 2009. The adapted version uses te ao Māori and Pasifika frameworks to engage the whole whānau in the therapeutic process.
This literature review identifies the current evidence that contextualises the delivery of the pilot programme. Contemporary therapeutic models, practices, and considerations of relevance to working with Māori and Pasifika young people and their whānau/families, are examined. The subsequent placement of Pae Whakatupuranga, within the wider context of theory and practice in Aotearoa, is considered. (From the Executive Summary). Record #7302
