The Government is changing how it provides independent oversight of all children and young people, including those in care and protection and the youth justice system, with a view to strengthening systems to meet the new requirements.
Consultation on strengthening the independent oversight of the Oranga Tamariki system and of children’s issues in New Zealand was undertaken in 2018. A post consultation document was written in August 2018. This document was released in April 2019 along with a Cabinet paper proposing changes. More information can be found on the website.
