The Safety of Children in Care Unit is responsible for reviewing and reporting on all findings of abuse related to all children in care. Children in care are defined as being subject to a custodial order or legal agreement under the Oranga Tamariki Act. For this review all placement arrangements are considered including those where children remain at home and those where they live independently.

Findings are reported across all abuse types (physical, sexual, emotional and neglect). Findings are also reported on all categories of alleged abusers.

The first quarter report using the new measurement methodology (follow the link for the Measurement of harm report) was published in March 2019, reporting on data for July - September 2018. Data for Quarter 2 - October - December 2018 was published at the same time. The final quarterly report in this series was Q4 (April - June 2019). Record #6184
