"Poutiria te Aroha' is an approach to working with, and in, whānau and community, holding firmly to aroha as both a principle and a practice underpinning all interactions. The
name comes from the words of Kāterina Te Heikōkō Mataira to
describe this kaupapa: “Poupoua, tiritiria te aroha ki roto ki te whānau”, where “Poupoua, tiritiria” refers to the action of implanting and firmly embedding, “aroha” speaks of unconditional love, “roto” is within, and “whānau” encompasses
the family in its widest sense. The programme draws on the
traditions of nonviolence, the concepts and strategies of
Nonviolent Parenting (NVP), and the wisdom and tikanga of Te Ao Māori." (from the Introduction). This third report portrays the
deepening of the learning and practice change that is now evident in Year 3 of this funded programme.
