Ruahine Albert was one of the founders of New Zealand's first Māori Women's Refuge. She has been breaking new ground ever since with a flexible, whānau-focused approach that excludes no-one who is willing to change. This article profiles the work of Te Whakaruruhau Marae Māori Women's Refuge and the woman who has spent more than twenty years working around the clock to Māori women, children and families be safe from abusive relationships.
