Inclusion criteria: Currently informs practice; Guide to improved practice; Endorsed or recognised as Good Practice
This document is the second of two guides designed to assist government and non-government agencies working in the area of child abuse and neglect. Its companion guide is "Breaking the Cycle: Interagency Guide to Child Abuse" (NZCYPS, 1995), a guide to how to recognise child abuse and neglect, concentrating on outlining the services currently provided by NZCYFS. Development of this guide followed amendments to the Children, Young Persons and their Families Act (1989) requiring the creation of protocols for the reporting of child abuse. This publication gathers together all protocols developed between government agencies and NZCYPS during the first six months since the amendment came into force, and is designed to assist non-statutory organisations to develop and/or review their own protocols for the reporting of child abuse and neglect. The document also includes protocols from various community and government agencies, including the Open Home Foundation, Youth for Christ, Barnados, Children's Health Camp Board, Crown Health Enterprises, Doctors for Sexual Abuse Care (DSAC), Ministry of Education, New Zealand School Trustees Association, Early Childhood Education Services, Police, Ministry of Youth Affairs, New Zealand Association of Social Workers, and the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC).
