McGregor, Kim

Abuse-focused therapy for adult survivors of child sexual abuse : a review of the literature McGregor, Kim - Auckland Injury Prevention Research Centre University of Auckland 2000 - 280 p.

This literature review arose from the author's research topic on the experience of therapy for women survivors of child sexual abuse. The literature review begins with the history of child sexual abuse and an overview of developments that led to abuse-focused therapy. Chapter 2 includes recent understandings of the biological, psychological, social and generational effects of child sexual abuse to inform stakeholders of the necessity for specific abuse-focused therapy. The final two chapters are based on the views of therapists, and these sections discuss effective practice with women survivors of child sexual abuse. Chapter 3 explores the philosophical approach to this form of therapy, and the fourth chapter provides an overview of the therapy process. Limitations are discussed in this report.
