Evaluation of programmes for children under the Domestic Violence Act 1995 Cram, Fiona; Cargo, Tania - Wellington, New Zealand : Ministry of Justice, 2002 - 159 p. ; computer file : PDF format (3.9mb)

This report was commissioned by the Ministry of Justice and the Department for Courts as part of a contract with UniServices at the University of Auckland. The aim of the report was to conduct research into programmes for children under the Domestic Violence Act (1995). One of the aims of the Domestic Violence Act is to provide programmes for children who are protected persons, either as part of an adult protection order or in their own right, and whose lives are affected by domestic violence. Three programmes were selected for evaluation. They were selected as examples, rather than being representative of the range of programmes available. The report is the final of a suite of evaluations, which together and separately, provide a wealth of information on the effectiveness of the Domestic Violence Act. A comprehensive approach is taken, incorporating aspects of both process and outcome evaluation. Documentation and qualitative analysis are employed in looking at the ways in which programmes for children operate in practice, under the Domestic Violence Act. The report and its conclusions must be interpreted with care due to the fact that the programmes evaluated are only three of a large number of programmes for children operating nationally.
