The third report of the Child and Youth Mortality Review Committee is presented in six sections. The first section describes the activities of the Committee and improvements to the database. Section two presents child and mortality statistics by age groups with analysis and recommendations for each group. This section also reports on youth suicide and deaths of non residents. Continued disparity between ethnicities is noted. The third section of the report describes work being done towards consistent coding of mortality data in Australasia, and provides information about mortality reviews carried out in Victoria, Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia. Section four describes two projects commissioned by the Committee: mortality among children and young people on roads, and a comparison of patterns of mortality among Maori children and young people in 2002 and 2003 with non-Maori. Section five outlines the Committee's objectives and goals for 2005/06, and the final section provides contact details for the Committee.
