This booklet provides practical guidance of a non-violent nature for the management of children's behaviour. It discusses the reasons for not smacking children and answers many questions that people are asking about alternatives to smacking. It uses an informed and informal style in its approach and is intended for people involved in educating and influencing parents, as well as parents and the public. Behaviour change towards more positive and respectful treatment of our children is seen as constructive in responding to children. It distinguishes between discipline, which is seen as essential to help children grow into responsible, cooperative and compassionate adults, and smacking or hitting, which clearly hurts a child and defeats the very purposes of discipline. One of the copies held includes a DVD. Record #2680
