Daughters of shame

Sanghera, Jasvinder

Daughters of shame Jasvinder Sanghera - London Hodder & Stoughton 2009 - 304 p. ; 25 cm.

Written for a general audience, this book tells the stories of South Asian women in Great Britain who have experienced domestic violence from their families related to forced marriages, and honour-based offences. Interwoven with the experiences of these women, the book describes the work of Karma Nirvana, a British group co-founded by the author that supports South Asian women affected by domestic violence, and cultural and language barriers. The author's previously published autobiography, 'Shame', about her own experiences with an unwanted arranged marriage, attracted considerable publicity for the work of Karma Nirvana.
