- 68 p. ; computer file : PDF format (600Kb)
This report is a follow-up to the 1998 Ministry of Justice annual review of responses to crime. The report expands on the 1998 review by providing updated information on responses to crime statistics, government strategies, and budget allocation expenditures for the criminal justice sector. The report looks in detail at what areas the criminal justice sector has been significantly working on over the past few years; those areas are youth offending and youth justice, family violence, and responses to offending by Māori and Pacific people. The section on family violence explores the nature and extent of family violence and victimisation by examining the incidence of, trends in conviction of, and issues regarding protection orders in family violence. This section also provides a summary of the policy issues in relation to family violence, such as statistical interpretation, legislative changes effectiveness, family violence prevention, Māori and Pacific peoples over-representation, service gaps, repeat victimisation, impact on children, linkages to other strategies and initiatives, and discussion of family violence focus groups.
