This brief article presents a review of the Law Commission report "Some Criminal Defences with Particular Reference to Battered Defendants", published in May 2001. The author makes reference to discussions from that report that address offending as a response to domestic violence, including the use of the term 'battered woman syndrome' as a legal argument, partial defences to murder, and the partial defence of provocation. Recommendations made by the Law Commission are discussed by the author.
