This essay looks at child abuse and domestic violence within Samoan communities. The essay is aimed at those who work with Samoan families. The author draws largely on studies based in Samoa, but also those from other Pacific nations including Australia and New Zealand. The essay examines physical abuse in the context of religion and parenting practice in Samoan communities, and discusses how sexual and domestic violence are perceived and responded to, both in communities in Samoa and in Australasia. The author also considers the impact of a changing culture on these issues.
