This DVD training resource explores what respect for the elderly means in practice. New Zealand-based, it includes Māori and Pacific cultural perspectives. The DVD presents six dramatised case studies are accompanied by discussion points to guide training. The case studies highlight various forms of elder abuse both in the community and in residential care: financial abuse, carer stress and neglect, physical abuse, institutional abuse and dealing with challenging behaviour from elderly clients. The DVD also contains a discussion amongst health professionals of their role in preventing elder abuse and neglect. The DVD is designed to complement the Ministry of Health/Age Concern NZ publication 'Family violence intervention guidelines: Elder abuse and neglect'.
